Catholics and Abortion

I can explain to Roger Mahony how one can be pro-choice and also believe that abortion should be legal, safe and rare. I can also explain to him how one can be pro-choice and not pro-abortion. The solution is so basic, so simple, so obvious. Prevention! No moral judgments are called for. The solution to unwanted pregnancy is the prevention of that pregnancy. Obviously, the cardinal does not wish to acknowledge the fact that contraception will do away with the need for abortion (except in the rarest of circumstances), but I can assure him that this is the only logical answer to the abortion question.
