A senior South African Defense Force officer accused the general now in charge of military intelligence of ordering the 1985 murder of a prominent anti-apartheid activist and three colleagues. In an affidavit submitted at the inquest into the deaths of Matthew Goniwe and three others, signals officer Col. Lourens du Plessis said a message he transmitted on behalf of Joffel van der Westhuizen was a clear call for the killings.
