Helping to Find Middle Ground

Share

I read with interest the article by Howard Blume and Candis Fields, “Finding Middle Ground” (Times, Feb. 14) What they neglected to mention is that the formation of the council of residents to advise the sheriff, as well as the process of screening and selecting members, was the result of efforts of the South Whittier Community Coordinating Council. The SWCCC is a grass-roots organization of resident volunteers. For several years the president, Victor Ledesma, in cooperation with the Board of Supervisors and the City of Santa Fe Springs, has given his full-time unpaid commitment to activities to better the community.

Without his efforts and those of the SWCCC, I do not believe the Sheriff’s Advisory Council and many other services to the residents of South Whittier would exist.
