An unprecedented walkout by the world’s top men’s slalom skiers in protest of course conditions forced cancellation of the World Cup event at Sierra Nevada, Spain, highlighting a dispute between the skiers and the International Ski Federation.
The FIS said it is considering fines or other penalties against a group of at least 15 slalom skiers who refused to race, including defending World Cup slalom champion Alberto Tomba of Italy, Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg, and defending men’s slalom world champion Kjetil Andre Aamodt of Norway.
