F-16 Payments to Lockheed Halted: Taiwan has halted monthly payments on its $5.8-billion purchase of F-16 jet fighters from Lockheed Corp., Taiwan’s defense minister said. Negotiations for the sale apparently are snarled over Taiwan’s request that some of the 150 aircraft be built in Taiwan. Defense Minister Sun Chen told legislators that the Taiwan government made an initial payment of $68.8 million on the contract last month, but didn’t make a payment scheduled for Monday. A Lockheed spokesman said the Pentagon has not told the company of the suspended payment.
