Graffiti Vandals

Regarding your editorial: The steps taken by the Buena Park school district are in the right direction, but as you correctly pointed out, that is not the only solution. The individuals involved should pay a greater price since they are the real culprits. Some of the proposed laws like the $1,000 fine and denying the culprits driver’s licenses until the age of 18 are good measures to deter other students.

Another way of dealing with the situation is to require all students to clean the graffiti in their own schools for two hours on Saturdays or be required to do other activities that would give students a sense of community, respect for public property, etc.

Students should also be taught that every action of an individual does have an effect on the whole community.
