SIMI VALLEY : Businessman Drops Plan for Nude Club

Share

A Las Vegas real estate entrepreneur who had proposed using part of a newly acquired Simi Valley shopping center as a nude bar has backed away from that plan and said he is no longer buying the center.

Philip Young said Wednesday that community opposition to the proposed nude club and other factors led him to cancel his plans.

The city had originally granted Young the zone clearance he needed to open the club, only to rescind the approval due to a lack of parking. It then imposed a moratorium on any adult business opening until the council adopts an ordinance regulating such establishments.

“Why fight City Hall?” Young said. “They don’t want you there, don’t put it there.”

Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton said he was glad Young had abandoned his plans.

Young, who bought the shopping center at 999 Los Angeles Ave. from the Resolution Trust Corp. at a Dec. 8 auction, said he is backing out of the purchase for several reasons. In addition to the public uproar over the club, he said the center has poor access and existing tenants have not paid rent for months.
