Doctor Killed at Abortion Clinic

Operation Rescue tries to distance itself from the murder of Gunn outside a Florida clinic; the KKK denies its rhetoric of hate contributes to the lynching of a young man in Alabama. Both groups are similar, in that they use terrorism and violence to block the exercise of a constitutionally guaranteed right--then disclaim responsibility when their members go “too far.”

Operation Rescue, in its harassment of clinic workers and physicians, gives clear approval and encouragement for the violent attacks against clinics and patients. The public should remember that not only do they (Operation Rescue) threaten free-standing clinics, but also hospitals that provide abortions.

We must not allow our clinics to be the stage for a violent “jihad” by those who disagree with the Supreme Court. It’s time for the Justice Department to investigate these acts for the conspiracy of terrorism that they are. And for us physicians, it’s time to step bravely forth in full support of our own who provide safe, legal abortions.
