Lockheed Georgia Workers Authorize Strike: Union members at a Lockheed Corp. plant in Marietta authorized leaders to call a strike by 5,300 workers after rejecting a management offer on a new contract, union officials said. An official of Local 709 of the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said union members voted by a margin of 96% to reject the management proposal. The three-year contract would have increased medical insurance costs paid by hourly workers and reduced hourly pay increases. The Georgia plant of Calabasas-based Lockheed builds various military cargo and transport planes.
