At the same venue where he slipped twice while competing in the 1988 Olympics, Dan Jansen reclaimed the world speedskating record in the 500 meters at the Record Breakers Meet at Calgary.
Jansen skated the 500 meters in 36.02 seconds, breaking by 0.30 seconds the record set earlier Saturday by Japan’s Takahiro Hamamichi, who had broken Jansen’s old record.
In other action, Brian Smith broke the U.S. record for the 3,000 meters with a time of 4:00.38.
