Complaints Prompt Inquiry of Geo Car Hoods: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating reports that hoods on General Motors’ Geo Metros can pop open suddenly because of defective latches. The agency said 34 complaints have been filed about hoods opening on 1989-92 models while the cars are moving, as well as 12 complaints that latches do not open or close properly. The agency has also received 11 complaints of key cylinders dropping out of the steering columns of 1991 Ford Escorts, causing the steering to lock. Both of the inquiries are in the preliminary evaluation stage.
