Voters Defeat Weir Canyon Schools Financing Measure

Share

Voters in a portion of the Orange Unified School District voted by a 2-to-1 margin Tuesday to oppose financing the construction of schools on the Weir Canyon-Summit School site, authorities said.

The special election measure received 55 “yes” votes and 112 “no” votes, said Beverly Warner, elections section supervisor with the Orange County registrar of voters. The measure required a two-thirds majority to pass.

The ballot measure would have authorized the school board to combine money raised in Community Facilities District 89-1 with funds raised in Community Facilities District 89-2 in order to build a new school in the latter district, Warner said.
