Orange Coast College’s long-running tradition of summer musical theater, interrupted last year because of budget problems, will be revived in July thanks to a $35,000 gift from an anonymous donor, it was announced Wednesday.

The money will be used to mount Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” July 16 to 25 at the Robert B. Moore Theatre on campus. It will be the first production in the theater after completion of a $1.6 million remodeling in progress.

A production of “South Pacific” at OCC in 1956 was the first in what became a long series of summer shows there. This time around, it will be directed by Alex Golson, chairman of the college’s theater department.
