Southeast Region : County Awards $42,000 to Four Youth Programs
Four area youth and gang prevention organizations have been awarded $42,00 from the county.
County Supervisor Deane Dana allocated the money last week from the 4th District’s $500,000 discretionary fund.
Consolidated Youth Services Network and Helpline Youth Counseling will receive $15,000 each, Toberman House $7,000 and the Office of Samoan Affairs $5,000.
Consolidated Youth Services Network provides counseling to juvenile offenders and crime victims in Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, La Mirada, Lakewood, Norwalk, Whittier and Paramount. Alcohol and drug counseling also is offered.
Helpline Youth Counseling offers programs for at-risk youth, those on probation and gang members in the Norwalk and Long Beach areas.
Toberman House offers counseling, classes for former gang members and drug intervention in the San Pedro area.
The Office of Samoan Affairs provides tutors and other programs for youths and gang members in Bellflower, Paramount, Long Beach and Wilmington.
“These programs each play an important role in our expanding efforts to combat gangs, drugs and violence,” Dana said.
