WESTMINSTER : Home Development OKd by City Council

The City Council this week unanimously approved the development of 46 homes on five acres at the southeast corner of Westminster Boulevard and Hammon Place.

“This is one of the finest developments I’ve seen . . . in years,” said Councilman Frank Fry Jr. “It’s a beautiful development. The neighbors will be proud of it.”

At the last public hearing on the issue, during the Feb. 8 council meeting, some residents complained that the development would increase traffic problems. Others said they wanted to maintain the property’s strawberry and corn fields.

At this week’s hearing, however, no one showed up to protest.

“This is one of the best bargains in home buying around,” said Councilwoman Charmayne S. Bohman. “It’s one of the first big steps we’re taking in keeping with the commitment to upgrade and beautify the city.”

Centerstone Development Co. will develop the parcel. Houses will sell for about $200,000 each, a Centerstone representative said.
