Defense Minister Kim Campbell, already leading in nationwide opinion polls, joined the race to replace Brian Mulroney as prime minister and leader of Canada’s Progressive Conservative Party. The expected announcement by Campbell, a 46-year-old lawyer from Vancouver, British Columbia, cemented her position as the front-runner among five announced candidates.
