OXNARD : Local Women Take Historic Parts

Share

Kathy Foxhoven donned shorts and grabbed a golf club for the role of athlete Babe Didrikson Zaharias at the Oxnard Library at a Women’s History Month performance Saturday.

“This is a really fun character,” said Foxhoven, an actress who lives in Camarillo. “What makes it really nice is that after you learn a little about someone’s life you become passionate about them.”

Zaharias was among six historic figures portrayed during short monologues aimed at educating people about the contributions of women in society.

Other historic figures depicted were Eleanor Roosevelt, labor activist Dolores Huerta, scientist Barbara McClintock, photographer Margaret Bourke-White and writer Maya Angelou.

The seventh annual event was sponsored by the American Assn. of University Women, Oxnard’s Baha’i chapter and the library.
