William Sigei headed a group of Kenyans who took the first five places in the World Cross-Country Championships at Amorebieta, Spain, beating Khalid Skah of Morocco, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist. Sigei covered the 12,850 yards in 32 minutes 51 seconds.
