Grand Prix for Jet Skis, SuperBoats

Race cars soon will have their turn, but last weekend in Long Beach belonged to jet skiers and pilots of SuperBoats, 45- to 50-foot-long craft with multiple engines that churn out 4,000 horsepower.

On Saturday and Sunday, the jet skiers performed freestyle exhibitions and competed at Propeller Park near the Queen Mary. On Sunday afternoon, about 30 SuperBoats took part in a 150-mile race over a 9.5-mile course, launching a 10-race Grand Prix season that will take them to Miami, Chicago, New Orleans, New York and other cities.
