When it comes to conserving water, every drop counts. Here are some strategies that reduce water consumption in the kitchen. (Water savings are based on an average family of two adults and two children using 240 gallons of water a day):

* Fix leaking faucets and plumbing joints. Saves 75 gallons a week for a slow, steady drip.

* Chill drinking water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap for cold water. Saves 200 to 300 gallons a month.

* Rinse vegetables in a filled pan instead of under running water. Saves 150 to 250 gallons a month.

* Use the garbage disposal less and the garbage can or composting bin more. Saves 50 to 150 gallons a month.

* When washing dishes by hand, use a spray device or short blasts instead of letting the water run for rinsing. Saves 200 to 500 gallons a month.
