The Ledler Foundation, a private philanthropic group based in Burbank, has given the Long Beach Opera a $350,000 challenge grant. Terms of the grant require the company to retire a current deficit of approximately $300,000 by June 30; to operate for a year without incurring new debt, and to raise $150,000 for each $50,000 given by the foundation over the next five years. The money will be used for productions, according to the company’s general director, Michael Milenski.
