NATION IN BRIEF : OHIO : EPA Approves Toxic Waste Incinerator

The Environmental Protection Agency approved limited commercial operations at a controversial toxic waste incinerator in the Ohio River city of East Liverpool. The $160-million incinerator owned by Waste Technologies Inc. recently completed a series of trial burns that the EPA said met emission levels specified in its permit. Greenpeace and local residents of the Ohio River town have sought court orders and support from the Clinton Administration to block operations at the plant .
