LOS ANGELES : Council Moves to Ban Continuous-Tone Alarms

Share

Prompted by citizen complaints, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday told the city attorney to draw up a ban on the car alarm devices that emit continuous beeps to deter thieves.

Most car alarms have flashing red lights on the dash, but the audible status indicator uses an electronic tone. The constant beeping has prompted numerous complaints from residents kept awake by the faint yet continuous tone. The council also voted to lobby for state and federal legislation opposing the manufacture of the noisemakers.
