Mar Vista : Building Rules Hearing Set

Share

A hearing is planned next week on Councilwoman Ruth Galanter’s proposal to make permanent a set of temporary regulations that limit the height of apartment buildings in parts of Mar Vista and Venice.

The proposal would formally establish height, parking and other restrictions in place since 1989 under a temporary measure, called an interim-control ordinance. It covers neighborhoods bounded by Lincoln Boulevard, Beethoven Street, Rose Avenue and Venice Boulevard.

The ordinance lowered the allowable height of apartment buildings to 45 feet from 66 feet and set a 33-foot limit on apartments that are near single-family homes. It also toughened off-street parking requirements and required building owners to give tenants a six-month notice before moving them to make way for demolition.

The Planning Department hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday in the community room of the Westchester Municipal Building, 7166 Westchester Ave.
