First there was President Clinton’s economic summit in Little Rock, Ark. Then there were the “mini-economic summits” in Orange County and other parts of California. Now comes the mini-mini-summit.

About 20 company executives pooled ideas recently at the first meeting of the Small Business Advisory Committee, formed by Harriett M. Wieder, chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The committee, a forum for business people to discuss collective problems and offer solutions, will meet monthly at the Hall of Administration in Santa Ana. Meetings are open to the public.

“We’re going to work on things that we have the power to change on a local level,” Wieder said.

Over-regulation was a recurring complaint at the initial meeting last week.

One of the committee members, Fountain Valley accountant John W. Briscoe, said that he joined “to have some input in the way the county treats small businesses.”

“Small businesses don’t get the headlines, but they produce more jobs than big companies do,” said Briscoe.

Chris Jenkins, manager of Laminating Company of America in Garden Grove--which makes backup material used in the manufacture of circuit boards--said he is participating on the committee to stay abreast of local issues.

“I wanted to have a communications link with somebody in government who may have the power to do something,” Jenkins said.
