Colorful Tennis Togs in Sets That Match Serve Well for Games

Go looking for tennis wear today and you’ll see a lot of prints in vibrant colors, says Saunie Harris, owner of theRacquet Set at Sunnyhills Racquet Club in Fullerton. “Makers are all trying to outdo each other with vivid colors and interesting designs.”

As always, classic colors such as navy and white are popular because they offer a crisp, clean look, says Elsa Vega, store manager of Boege’s Sporting Goods in Fullerton. Other colors that remain in fashion are black, yellow and purple.

In addition to fashionable and innovative designs, at many shops you can expect to see high quality, functional tennis wear, says Jody Cullen-Robles, owner of Fila in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa.

BOEGE’S SPORTING GOODS

In women’s tennis wear, this store carries a LeLuciaz Sport V-neck 100% cotton shirt with cap sleeves. This comes in a variety of primary and pastel colors, including jade, purple, royal, mint green, white and red ($26, small, medium and large).

The matching 100% cotton skirt has an A-line zipper front, elastic waist and two side pockets. It also comes in small, medium and large ($25).

In men’s tennis clothes, the store has an Adidas rib-neck collar, three-button polo shirt from the Edberg Classic Polo line. This 60% cotton, 40% polyester shirt has side vents and a longer tail. On the left and middle chest area is a silk-screened swirl print in royal blue and cranberry ($40, small through extra large).

Pair the shirt with Adidas Future II shorts. These have a pleated front, two side pockets, an elastic waist and side vents. They are a 90% cotton and 10% Lycra ($45, Sizes 32 to 40).

CHICK’S

These stores have women’s Prince Practice Gear shorts made of microfiber genesis, which is a nylon that drapes well and has a silky feel. These shorts come in solid blue, purple, tangerine or black. They have a fixed, drawstring waist and are available in small through large ($30).

A matching jacket also made of microfiber genesis comes in the same solid colors and has a zip front with a one-inch knit collar that forms a mild V-neck. The cuffs are also knitted ($66, small through large).

To finish the outfit, the store has a white 100% cotton T-shirt with a bright sun and tennis graphic on the front, the colors of which coordinate with the shorts and jacket ($18, small through large).

In men’s tennis clothing, you’ll find a Nike Challenge Court collection warm-up in nylon with cotton lining. The outfit’s pants are solid black with elastic and zippers at the ankle. It has a full-zip black jacket with a white collar that has big yellow stripes. On the right side of the jacket’s chest is a yellow circle representing a moving tennis ball and on the back a white and gold geometric design ($140, small through extra-large).

This store not only carries a wide selection of tennis wear, it has has a variety of high-tech tennis footwear.

For women, there is a Fila Monica Seles Line white skirt in 65% polyester, 35% cotton. This has a kick pleat slightly to the side with a nylon, mosaic-print insert of violet, aqua, lilac and azure. The skirt has an elastic waistband, two side pockets and a back zipper ($76, Sizes 4 through 14).

Pair the skirt with a matching mosaic print top that has cap sleeves and a three-button collar. The shirt is 100% cotton and comes in Sizes 4 through 14 ($76).

Finish the look with a matching 100% nylon warm-up. The zipper-front mosaic print jacket has a drawstring neck, and the accompanying white pants have elastic and zippers at the ankle ($242, Sizes 4 through 14).

For men, there is a Fila White line nylon-hooded warm-up. This is navy with white horizontal stripes around the chest and continuing down the arms. The hood is red, and the elbow areas have red patches. There is a full zip-up front and zip pockets, and the navy pants have elastic and zipper at the ankles ($165, Sizes 34 to 50).

HANK LLOYD’S ORANGE COUNTY TENNIS

These discounted tennis shops carry women’s Kalein Tahiti line polyester skirts that come in either a pleated or wrap style in solid daffodil, navy or coral. The pleated skirt ($42, Sizes 4 to 18) has a back zipper and buttons at the waistline. The wrap skirt ($45, Sizes 4 to 16) is adjustable with a button at the waist.

In cotton tops there are tanks ($35); V-necks with cap sleeves ($41) and cap sleeve with collar shirts ($41). These come in navy, white or coral floral designs in small through large.

For men, there is a LeCoq Sportif Auburn polo-style three-button shirt. This 100% cotton shirt is white with navy pin-stripes and mulberry and teal accents covering the bottom of the sleeves. There is a geometric design on the back of the shirt also in mulberry, teal and navy. Half of the collar is navy and half is teal ($40, small through extra-large).

The LeCoq Bruno basic tennis shorts are 61% polyester, 33% cotton and 6% spandex poplin. These stretchy shorts have a front pleat, elastic waist and button back pocket. They come in solid colors of white, navy, teal or mulberry, Sizes 30 through 40 ($40).

In women’s tennis wear, this store carries a Lily nylon, stitched-down pleated skirt. A hidden elastic waist band makes the skirt look tailored but allows some stretching. The pink, lavender, blue and white skirt has a slight paisley pattern that gives it a dressy, tapestry look, Heiser says. It has a back zipper ($40, Sizes 4 through 14).

Accompany the skirt with a 100% cotton white polo-style shirt. This has sleeves and shoulders made of the same print and material as the skirt and lavender trim woven on the collar’s edge ($35, small, medium and large).

In men’s tennis wear, there are LeCoq Sportif olive-colored shorts made of 50% polyester, 48% cotton and 2% spandex blend. These have two side pockets, a pleated front and hidden waistband ($35, Sizes 30 through 40).

The matching 100% cotton polo-style shirt is white with geometric navy, olive and purple blocks from the chest up, including the sleeves. It comes in small, medium, large and extra-large ($40).

These stores carry a variety of women’s tennis outfits, including tank tops and T-shirts in 100% cotton from Discoveries by Natalie or Whims. The shirts come in small through large in an assortment of colors with tennis-related designs ($40).

There are also Discoveries by Natalie or Whims matching pull-on cotton shorts with an elastic waistband. These shorts are primarily white with coordinating tennis designs and come in small, medium and large ($35).

For men, the Prince bright royal blue nylon warm-up comes in medium, large and extra-large. The pants are solid blue with a drawstring waist, two side pockets and elastic and zippers at the ankle. The full-zip jacket is blue with red and white accents ($165).

In women’s tennis wear, this store carries a 100% cotton Head white tank-style top with a king and queen playing card design covering the front in the bright primary colors of red, yellow and green with black accents of spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds. There is a black V-neck inset ($49, small through large).

Accompany the top with a Head thin pleat skirt. This black 100% polyester skirt feels like washed silk, says store merchandise buyer Tanya Byerly. It has an elastic waist and back zipper and button and comes in Sizes 4 to 14 ($62).

A men’s Boast polo-style white shirt is 95% cotton and 5% polyester. It has purple and jade trim on the collar and sleeves and a purple and jade pin-stripe pattern running through the shirt. “Seacliff Tennis Club” is embroidered on the shirt along with a seagull against the sun logo ($55, medium through double extra-large).

Also for men are Boast classic shorts, which have a stay waistband that helps keep shirts tucked in. There are two side pockets and a back pocket with button. The 69% cotton, 26% polyester, 5% polyurethane shorts come in many colors, including white, black, navy and jade ($59, Sizes 30 through 40).

THE RACQUET SET AT SUNNYHILLS RACQUET CLUB

This store has a women’s 100% polyester Kalein skirt that comes in either wide pleat or wrap-around style with buttons at the side waistline. The skirts come in solid navy or yellow ($49, petite to large).

Match the skirt with a collared top that has cap sleeves and a V-neck ($44), a polo-style shirt ($49) or a tank ($38). All the tops come in a navy and white zebra print with a touch of yellow and crimson. They’re 100% cotton and are available in petite to large ($49).

For men, there is a LeCoq Sportif 100% cotton collared tailored-looking polo shirt. It comes in a combination navy, purple and black geometric print ($49, medium, large and extra large).
