Real Earnings Steady in March: The average weekly earnings of U.S. workers, after adjusting for inflation, essentially were unchanged in March after falling 0.4% in February, the Labor Department said. The department had originally reported that February real earnings fell 0.2%. The March change in real earnings was less than 0.05%, it said, without giving a specific figure. Average hourly earnings rose 0.5% in March, but that was offset by a 0.3% drop in average weekly hours and a 0.2% increase in consumer prices for urban wage earners. March real earnings were 1% lower than year-earlier levels, the department said.
