NEWPORT BEACH : State Money Sought for Storm Cleanup

Share

The city is seeking reimbursement from the state for the cost of cleaning up debris washed onto the beach by this year’s rainstorms.

The city has spent about $60,000 cleaning up debris that was carried down the Santa Ana River and washed ashore, said Mike Pisani, deputy general services director.

Since the January rains, city workers have removed 44,000 pounds of debris--nearly as much trash as the city produces in three weeks--and hauled it to a landfill in Irvine.
