Pat Haden’s Sister Badly Beaten; Her Husband Is Jailed
The sister of former Rams quarterback Pat Haden has been hospitalized and her husband arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Stacey Menchaca, 36, was listed in fair condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center on Friday with head injuries.
Stephen Menchaca, 42, is being held in Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail. He was assigned a public defender and scheduled for arraignment April 20.
Sheriff’s Lt. Dick Olson said that shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Stacey Menchaca called 911 from a neighbor’s house and said that her husband had just struck her over the head in their garage.
The husband was arrested without incident, Olson said. Deputies interviewed him, but still don’t know what motivated the alleged attack, he said.
Neighbors say the couple have three children, who were home when the incident occurred.
