Mom Walks on the Wild Side: 3 Kids in 60 Miles
A Congolese woman, apparently unaware that she was pregnant with triplets, gave birth in three villages during a three-day walk over 60 miles, a public health official said Friday.
Bernadette Obelebouli, 34, had the first child in the northern village of Otslaka last Monday with the help of a midwife, said Appolinaire Nganga, the director of the Public Health Ministry’s cabinet.
Then she and her husband began a journey south. After walking 30 miles, Obelebouli bore a second child in Lekana the next day, the ministry said in a report that also was carried on state-run radio.
Sensing something was wrong, Obelebouli visited a hospital the next day in the village of Djambala and gave birth to the third child.
The Health Ministry said the mother and three babies-two girls and a boy-were doing well.
