OXNARD : Chase Ends in Arrest of Burglary Suspect
A burglary suspect who led police on a high-speed car chase through an Oxnard neighborhood before fleeing on foot was arrested after a scuffle with an officer, police said.
Julian Garcia Rodriguez, 29, of Oxnard was arrested Friday after a struggle with Officer Scott Whitney, whose leg was cut by a steak knife in Rodriguez’s pocket. Whitney was treated at a nearby hospital and released, police said.
Police said a neighbor told them Rodriguez had taken property from a house in the 2300 block of Byrd Drive about 1 p.m. The neighbor called police, and officers spotted Rodriguez’s car traveling north on Rose Avenue at 5th Street.
The officers chased the suspect at speeds up to 70 m.p.h. in a residential zone before the man suddenly stopped the car, jumped out and ran, police said. He was caught after a brief pursuit, police said.
Rodriguez was being held at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
