Share

A new organization dedicated to fighting housing discrimination has opened in Ventura County.

Called the Ventura County Fair Housing Council, the group has offices in Camarillo at 360 Mobil Ave., Suite 108A.

A spokeswoman said the organization will investigate complaints from residents who are trying to rent an apartment or buy a house who feel they are being discriminated against because of their race, sex, age or disability or because they have children.

The group’s services are free to the public, spokeswoman Debra Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said the council is an offshoot of the Hollywood-Mid-Los Angeles Fair Housing Council, which contracted with the Ventura County Board of Supervisors to serve the county.

The Ventura County Fair Housing Council will have a counselor at its Camarillo office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

But telephone calls to the council during business hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be patched through to the Los Angeles office, Rodriguez said.

The council’s telephone numbers are 389-9625 and (800) 734-1141.
