An Iranian organization is offering gold coins worth about $16,000 for the best caricatures of British author Salman Rushdie, who was condemned to death for blasphemy by the late Iranian leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Rushdie, the author of “The Satanic Verses,” has been in hiding since Khomeini sentenced him to death in 1989.
