200 Arrested Protesting U.S. Bases
About 200 protesters were arrested at a remote U.S. base in South Australia on Sunday after a scuffle in which police dogs and horses were used, a police spokesman said.
Some of the protesters, who had broken through the outer perimeter of the Nurrungar communications and missile-tracking station, were slightly injured by the dogs, the spokesman said.
They will be charged with trespassing, he said.
About 40 protesters were arrested after an earlier break-in at the base Saturday but were released.
The protesters are demanding that Australia expel the U.S. military from Nurrungar and from other U.S. communications or intelligence bases in the country.
