From Times Staff and Wire Reports

More than 800,000 Milwaukee-area residents were told that they no longer have to boil water that had been contaminated with a parasite blamed for an outbreak of intestinal sickness. Mayor John O. Norquist said he waited for results of final water samples before lifting the week-old advisory that people boil tap water before using it for drinking or cleaning food. The mayor said no sign of the organism, Cryptosporidium, was found in water samples from a purification plant that has served the city and 10 suburbs since Friday. City officials announced a schedule for all businesses and residents to run their tap water for three minutes to flush pipes of any stagnant water.
