Occidental Sells Island Creek Coal: In a tough year for the coal business, Los Angeles-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. has sold its Lexington, Ky.-based coal operation to Consol Energy, a holding company owned in part by DuPont Co. Financial details were not disclosed. Island Creek is one of the largest U.S. coal companies, with mines in Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky. Under a restructuring plan announced in 1991, Oxy has been focusing on its international oil and gas exploration business.
