A summary of selected City Hall actions affecting Central Los Angeles in the past week. : CITY COUNCIL

KOREAN HEALTH FAIR: Approved a proposal to spend about $850 to partially finance the Korean Health Fair Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Oriental Mission Church, 424 N. Western Ave. in the Wilshire area. About 35 physicians will provide free health examinations, including blood pressure tests and medical referral services.

MUSICAL PARTY: Approved the closure of 54th Street from 10th Avenue to 11th Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 27 for the 70th anniversary party for the Institute of Arts, 3210 W. 54th St., in the Crenshaw area. The building, long a popular recording studio for African-American artists, is a city historical monument.

RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSION

RALLY: Approved a request for amplified sound at Martin Luther King Park for a rally from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday sponsored by the Community Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment. The rally is to promote “Rebuild a Safer South-Central Los Angeles Without Problem Liquor Stores.”

REMODELING: Approved a $635,000 contract for Lehigh Construction Co. of Los Angeles to remodel a community building at Elysian Park in Echo Park. The project includes new toilets, a weight room and a kitchen and installation of an air-conditioning system.

ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE: Approved a report containing 24 proposed city projects that would cost more than $49 million to complete. Approval of the funds for the projects, which emphasized economic development of the areas hit hard by last year’s riots, is pending before Congress. Passed: 10-0. Voting yes: Joan Milke Flores, Mike Hernandez, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Rita Walters. Absent: Richard Alatorre and Nate Holden.

LAX TOWER: Approved an agreement between the city and the Federal Aviation Administration for the construction of a 17-story air traffic control tower at Los Angeles International Airport. The tower will replace the existing 12-story tower that was constructed more than 30 years ago. The tower will be built with federal funds. Passed: 11-0. Voting yes: Alatorre, Flores, Hernandez, Holden and Walters. Absent: Ridley-Thomas.
