Beer Consumption on the Rise: Beer consumption rose for the eighth successive year in Japan, bucking a trend seen in most industrialized countries. The Japanese drank 1.56 billion gallons in 1992, up 2.7%, an official report said. Overall alcohol consumption increased for the seventh year in a row, while whiskey consumption decreased for the fourth straight year.
