Spur Posse Case Not All Bad News

Re: “Spur Posse Case--The Same Old (Sad) Story,” by Robin Abcarian, April 7: Abcarian needs to cheer up. The Spur Posse controversy and all the attention it’s receiving is evidence of a victory for the feminist movement.

True, there is much sadness in this story: the fathers with their “virile specimens,” the students wearing black armbands. It’s likely that the many posses all across the country will go right on spurring.

Thankfully, what has changed (to an extent) is our society and the way it views and reacts to such attitudes and behavior. Thirty years ago this story would never have created such a ruckus.

It’s a victory and we should at least recognize it if for no other reason than to inspire those who see something wrong in the world and work hard to change it.
