County Triathlon Added to Cup Series

The Mazda/Orange County Performing Arts Center Triathlon has been included in the 11-race International Triathlon Union World Cup Series, featuring the world’s top professional triathletes.

The race, scheduled June 6 at Lake Mission Viejo, also will be the U.S. Pro Championships with the top three professional finishers representing the United States in the World Championships on Aug. 22, in England.

The race format will be changed, with the pros competing in a criterium-style event that allows spectators to see more action and keep track of the race.

The amateur triathlon has been shortened to a one-kilometer swim, a 30K bike ride and an 8K run.
