U.S., EC Fail to Reach Trade Agreement: Trade negotiators failed to strike a deal in a fractious public contracts dispute and scheduled one final day of talks in an effort to avoid a retaliatory trade war. After pushing back deadline after deadline, the top U.S. and European negotiators said they wanted one last shot at bridging their differences. The dispute centers on regulations that Washington contends hamper U.S. companies’ ability to bid on European government contracts. Europe counters that its companies face worse barriers in the United States.
