ENCINO : Filtration Plant Issues to Be Aired

Share

Officials from the Department of Water and Power and the state Department of Health Services will answer questions Thursday about a proposed $150-million water-filtration plant for the Encino Reservoir.

“People really don’t know about this,” said Rhoda Rand of the Encino Reservoir Coalition, which is hosting the 7 p.m. meeting at the Encino Community Center, 4935 Balboa Blvd. “This meeting is to apprise the residents of Encino about the filtration plant and some of the problems that could occur.”

Since a site for the plant has not been selected, debate is expected over its location at the reservoir, located in the Santa Monica Mountains south of the end of Encino Avenue.

A mediator, hired by the DWP for discussions with reservoir neighbors to avoid the public outcry that has arisen as a result of past projects, is scheduled to attend the meeting.

The plant is one of four being considered for open reservoirs in the Santa Monica Mountains to meet newly imposed state water-quality standards.
