OXNARD : Shelter Sought for Zoe Center Residents

Share

Oxnard housing officials Tuesday began looking for places to relocate residents of Zoe Christian Center, officials said.

Zoe, Ventura County’s only year-round shelter for homeless families, received an eviction notice from its landlord last week after falling behind in rent by more than $94,500.

Housing Director Sal Gonzalez said that moving the 63 residents of the transitional housing facility to public housing will take about a month.

The city must first determine which benefits Zoe’s residents qualify for, Gonzalez said.

In a related matter, the Oxnard Housing Authority approved an operating budget of $2.9 million for its low-rent public-housing program. The figure is about $24,000 less than last year.
