World IN BRIEF : MIDEAST : Arabs May Announce Return to Peace Talks
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Shareh said that an Arab statement to be issued today on resuming peace talks with Israel will be “positive.” Shareh did not directly confirm that the Arabs have decided to attend the talks. But he said: “The communique is positive. We could not take any decision except the positive one.” In Amman, Jordan, an Arab official who had attended talks that included PLO leader Yasser Arafat said that Arab delegations are expected to announce today in Damascus that they will return to the peace talks next week in Washington.
