Preventive Health Care Guidelines Set: In the first agreement of its kind in the nation, 17 major California businesses and 15 health plans have decided on a standard set of preventive care guidelines designed to curb illnesses and premature deaths and promote health and productivity in workers. The pact, announced in San Francisco by the Bay Area Business Group on Health, specifies how often healthy adults aged 19 to 64 should schedule mammograms, clinical breast exams, Pap smears and blood cholesterol and blood pressure tests, and when counseling is recommended for smokers, drug users and others with habits that could be damaging their health.
