Gang Warfare

Concerning Javier Rodriguez’s column (April 8): He resorts to the convenient whipping boy of Reagan/Bush (job loss, disparity of income) for the explosion gang warfare in the past decade. Poverty and unemployment were much worse 60 years ago yet gang violence was nearly unknown. Rodriguez should read George Will’s column of the same day which cites studies that indicate the advent of TV has led to greater acceptance of violence in society. That and movies that glorify violence and sex, the breakdown of the family, etc., have more to do with the gang problems than the “evil” Reagan legacy.
