A government official converted to Roman Catholicism on Wednesday after leaving the Church of England because of her opposition to female priests.

Social Security Minister Ann Widdecombe described her conversion as “a very delicate business and a very difficult business.”

The Church of England’s governing General Synod voted in November to ordain women priests. Widdecombe, 45, is the highest-profile figure to leave the church over the decision.
