Troops killed two Palestinian youths and wounded 62 in quelling riots Wednesday in Gaza Strip refugee camps, Arab reports said.

The army confirmed the shooting deaths but put the number of wounded at 20.

It was the worst day of clashes since the occupied lands were closed off from Israel three weeks ago after attacks on Jews.

Palestinians said that running clashes erupted throughout the Gaza Strip after militants of the Muslim fundamentalist Hamas movement issued a strike call over mosque loudspeakers.

Wednesday’s stone-throwing protests followed the fatal shootings of two fugitives by the army Tuesday, when troops blew up walls and houses to force the surrender of suspects believed to be armed.

Meanwhile, dozens of Katyusha rockets slammed into northern Israel early today, security sources said.

There was no immediate word of casualties or damage from the rockets, which hit upper Galilee, the sources added.

On Wednesday, Lebanese guerrillas fired three barrages of Katyusha rockets into Israel, and Israeli shelling in south Lebanon killed two civilians.
