Christopher Fairchild, 35, gay activist who served on West Hollywood’s Public Safety Commission. Fairchild, a lawyer, was a major force in ACT UP/LA and campaigned here and in Sacramento for the state gay rights bill, AB 101, which was vetoed by Gov. Pete Wilson two years ago. Fairchild bankrolled an ill-fated effort to create a separate police department for the city of West Hollywood. That drive was prompted by a dispute over Sheriff’s Department handling of a gay demonstration protesting Wilson’s veto. On April 16 in Los Angeles of AIDS.
