ORANGE : Police to Check Cars for Child Restraints
- Share via
The Police Department will be conducting a child restraint and seat-belt checkpoint today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the intersection of Katella and California avenues.
Children under the age of 4 or who weigh less than 40 pounds must be in child-safety seats when in an automobile, Police Lt. Ed Tunstall said.
In addition, all other automobile occupants must be wearing seat belts.
Drivers with young children who are not in child-safety seats will receive a $30 citation for a first-time offense. The fine will be waived by the courts if a safety seat is purchased, Tunstall said.
“The idea is to get the kids into car seats, not collect money,” Tunstall said.
